Gruffalon

When the story of the Gruffalo is brought to the stage, imagination takes the leading role. The well-known characters from the book by Julia Donaldson are given new form in a playful tale where everyday objects are transformed into the story’s main characters. But who scares whom – and does the Gruffalo really exist?

This performance is a part of Marionetteaterns international festival Pop Up Puppets at Kulturhuset Stadsteater in Stockholm the 20-23 of August 2026.

Tickets go on sale on 27 March.

About the performance

The fox, the owl and the snake would all love to have a mouse for dinner and think they’ve found easy prey. But the little mouse of the forest is smarter than that. By inventing the story of the terrifying and greedy Gruffalo, the mouse manages to escape during a walk through the woods.

The story of the Gruffalo is widely loved, written in verse by Julia Donaldson, translated into Swedish by Lennart Hellsing, and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. In 2009, The Gruffalo was made into an animated short film, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Film and received many other prestigious awards.

Recommended from age 4. Performed in Swedish.
