Coffee With Sugar?

With coffee and sugar, in all its forms, a story about the consequences of colonialism is told. It tells of German immigration to Central America, the colonial structures that were created and still exist in our society, and how they have been dealt with. At the same time, the everyday consumption of these two products, integral to the Western way of life, is also addressed.

This performance is a part of Marionetteaterns international festival Pop Up Puppets at Kulturhuset Stadsteater in Stockholm the 20-23 of August 2026.

About the performance

Coffee With Sugar? is produced by the Latin American artist, Laia RiCa & KMZ KOLLEKTIV. A sensual and intellectually gripping story that talks about the effects of colonialism on Central America. Together with personal anecdotes and historical sources, a powerful story is told. Performed by Laia RiCa, a German and Salvadorian director and actor, who experiences the clash of the two cultures, and the constant suspicion of betraying her own "roots". Questions arise: How do the feelings of inferiority and superiority historically developed in ourselves coexist, and what do we do with the knowledge of injustice?

From age 15. Performed in english.
