Granm’ma

A glimpse into the final days of the life of the actors grandma. After visiting his grandma in Surinam for the first time in years, Wensley decides to take care of her. Driven by a sense of responsibility and compassion, but also by curiosity. How is it possible, in such circumstances, to rise each morning and face the day with a smile. "Granm’ma" is a tender tribute to the actors grandmother.

This performance is a part of Marionetteaterns international festival Pop Up Puppets at Kulturhuset Stadsteater in Stockholm the 20-23 of August 2026.

About the performance

“The image from my childhood – a Garden of Eden with fruit trees and a beautiful house – ad all but vanished. My grandmother lived alone in a dilapidated little home. But she had not lost her zest for life. Every day she began with fresh energy.”

Through a restrained style of puppetry, the actor and puppeteer Wensley Piqué offers an intimate glimpse into his grandma's final days. Vitality shimmers through everyday gestures.

With loving care, Wensley manipulates the puppet, helps her out of bed, ties a pangi around her, and dances with her through the room. In doing so we witness a grandson accompanying his grandmother in the last stage of her life.

From age 15. Non verbal performance.
